Employability Day 2020
ONLINE at National
Employability Day is an annual campaign developed and coordinated by the Employment Related Services Association (ERSA). The campaign was set up in 2016 to shine a spotlight on the Employability sector and provides an opportunity for employment support organisations and employers to celebrate their hard work supporting people to enter or progress in employment.
Previous campaigns have been so successful, ERSA have been inundated with emails and calls about plans for 2020, this campaign has become important to everyone working in the Employability sector, perhaps this year more than ever. A toolkit and interactive map will be available shortly.
This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and recognising that many of the UK’s employment support delivery and training centres may still be closed, the day will now be celebrated as an online campaign. Join on Friday 26 June to show how strong and resilient the employability sector continues to be in the face of the pandemic. ERSA members already face significant challenges working with customers often needing extra support to move them closer to finding sustained work. Organisations are already working with some of the most vulnerable in society, and, as a sector, and wider society, we must ensure no one is left behind.
Employability Day provides the perfect platform for organisations to showcase the importance of employment support for social inclusion and productivity. It allows them to shout about their success and drive understanding across key stakeholders at local, regional and national level. Any organisation that supports people to enter or progress in work can get involved in Employability Day, including charities, businesses, employers, social enterprises, local authorities, housing associations, training providers and community groups.
There are many ways to get involved in Employability Day – in a socially distanced kind of way
In the past organisations have hosted VIP visits, held open days or job fairs with jobseekers and employers, put on street stalls, activity mornings or tea parties, launched reports or hosted roundtables or panel discussions, or simply thrown a party for their staff and supported the day online by posting pictures and supportive messages. Not everything works virtually, but there’s plenty you can shout about including services and impact organisations are making across the UK in their local communities.
How has your organisation adapted to digital delivery?
Many employability organisations have furloughed staff or are deployed to work on the COVID-19 response so you may not be in a position to develop online events and activities this year, but hopefully you’ll find a way to support the campaign as best you can.
Ideas and a toolkit will be developed that reflect the online campaign to promote the sector on the lead up, on the day and beyond. There’s already been some fantastic collaborative working so ERSA will build on that and celebrate what makes the sector so relevant and vital during this time.
What are you planning?
Let ERSA know what you are planning and add your details to be included in this year’s EmpDay Interactive Map. When asked for a postcode, please use your local delivery centre which will inform MPs and other stakeholders about the campaign across the four corners of the UK.

Share your ideas
This year, the ERSA team, like so many organisations has reduced, so, if you have any ideas, suggestions or examples of effective online campaigns, please share them.
If you don’t already follow ERSA, make sure to take a look at their Twitter accounts @ERSA_news and @ERSA_ceo and use this year’s hasghtag #EmpDay20
