Central England Co-operative invite representatives from organisations interested in food justice to a free Conference being hosted by Central England Co-operative’s President, Elaine Dean and Chief Executive Officer, Debbie Robinson.

We want to bring people together to explore solutions to food poverty, finance and employability.

DATE: Friday, 15th November, 2019
VENUE: Best Western Premier, Yew Lodge, Packington Hill, Kegworth. DE74 2DF (nr East Midlands Airport/East Midlands Parkway) – mileage expenses for one car per foodbank
TIMINGS: 9.30 am – Coffee/Tea. 10am Commence.  3.30 pm conclude.

Purpose: to bring Foodbanks, Credit Unions and other like minded organisations from across our trading area to pursue co-operative solutions to issues around food and financial security.

Who this is for: anyone involved in Food Justice – Foodbanks, Credit Unions, Service Providers, MPs, Local Authorities, Co-operative Development  Agencies

Other guest speakers include:

  • Jane Avery – Vice President, Central England Co-operative
  • Tim Adkin – Action Homeless Food Security.  The high demand on foodbanks and how to tackle some of the issues. Investigating the needs and possible solutions
  • Councillor Sam Webster – Nottingham Credit Union.  The awareness of financial security and support services.  Investigating issues around finance and support services
  • Nigel Adams , Hope Nottingham Foodbank.  Report on the assets that are found in the community to come together to realise and develop their strengths

Central England Co-operative has been very much involved  in tackling poverty issues relating to food, finance and employability.  We have a really good relationships with foodbank providers and credit unions but we are now at a stage to look at future solutions to eradicate food poverty.

In addition, we are asking foodbanks to bring a recipe with them of what a family, a single person or elderly person would be able to cook.  We will then look to see if we can put together some recipe cards for future use.
