Working towards recovery: employability and skills in multiple disadvantage

9.30am to 1.00pm at Nottingham

9.30am to 1.00pm

Join this free online event exploring the role of work-related activity in recovery and resettlement for people facing Severe and Multiple Disadvantage (SMD).

There is an identified gap in employment and skills service provision for people who experience SMD. Often their experiences are regarded as too complex for employment-related support and opportunities relegated to a longer term goal that they are assumed to not be ready for.

This event will seek to challenge stigma and limiting beliefs around people’s readiness for employment or skills development activities, including thought and discussions about:

  • The role of work-related activity in recovery and resettlement
  • The benefits of employability and case studies showcasing “what works”
  • Examples of good practice and solutions to common concerns, issues and barriers
  • Opportunities for local services to work together and develop good practice in this context.

The event will hear from several different perspectives, including guests from Opportunity and Change, Opportunity Nottingham and Building Better Opportunities. Importantly we’ll also hear from the voice of lived experience.

Audience: This event is aimed at professionals and volunteers from all sectors who work with people experiencing multiple disadvantage. It may be of particular interest to those keen to explore and promote the value of employment-related activity in recovery and resettlement.
