Stakeholder Managers Develop a Criminal Justice Referral Pathway

Posted 11.02.2019

A bespoke referral pathway has been developed between Building Better Opportunities (BBO) and the Derbyshire constabulary to ensure a seamless referral pathway between the police and BBO programmes. The Police work with a lot of vulnerable individuals who would benefit from bespoke, one-to-one support varied to their specific barriers and needs.

The referral process and secure platforms have now been set up and referrals are starting to be made.

Stakeholder Managers are involved within many teams, such as housing, welfare reform, public health, adult social care, and community safety. Last year, it became clear that Police representatives were often involved across all of these pathways, but that direct pathways from the Police’s Vulnerable Persons Units and other teams would be good to offer localised, targeted support tailored to the unique and individual circumstances of those that they are working with.

A data sharing agreement was developed, along with a secure platform that can be accessed by each lead organisation from the 3 BBO strands. Referrals have started to be received from police staff through this secure platform.

The support offered through the programme and the referral process is being distributed to each team within the Derbyshire Constabulary through a video, and has been made available on the Police intranet.

Once this referral pathway has been tested for a few more months, we will look to mirror this structure across Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire.

Stakeholder Managers relationships here will enable future projects of a similar kind to function fluidly now that a process has been set up. This is useful for future employment and skills support, for example, which might be commissioned in the future.

BBO is having a significant impact on individual lives, supporting people to increase their confidence, independence and achieve their employment aspirations.
