Recruiting Talent in Bassetlaw - post-event page

Posted 07.10.2021

Recruiting Talent in Bassetlaw took place on 16 September 2021 at Ye Olde Bell Hotel and Spa in Retford.   The hotel provided a wonderful backdrop for our first face-to-face event since the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020.

Over 80 delegates joined us on the day to share their experiences around inclusive recruitment and to help shape the future for Bassetlaw.  This is one of a series of events which commenced in 2019 to bring together experts who can support businesses to change the way they recruit and retain staff, accessing a wider pool of talent available locally and contributing to greater productivity.

The event included keynote speakers from Bassetlaw District Council, D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership and Cerealto Siro UK.  Our compere for the day was Julie Beresford, Economic Development Manager, for Bassetlaw District Council.

Dave Armiger, Chief Executive at Bassetlaw District Council, spoke about the challenges for Bassetlaw.  Fiona Baker, Head of People and Skills at the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership, told us more about the economic landscape and the importance of inclusive recruitment.  Jason England,  Managing Director of Cerealto Siro UK, gave some excellent examples of how his company has made both physical adaptions and changed the way they recruit to be more inclusive and also to attract local talent.

Our keynote speakers were followed by a lively panel discussion and two workshops.  Worksop one focused on people with long term conditions and was delivered by colleagues from I-Work, Nottinghamshire County Council, South Yorkshire Housing Association and the Department of Work & Pensions.  Workshop two focused on employing and retaining young people.  This workshop was delivered by colleagues from The Prince’s Trust and the Department of Work & Pensions.
