Recruiting Talent Mansfield & Ashfield - post event page 16/2/22

Posted 27.02.2022

RECRUITING TALENT IN MANSFIELD AND ASHFIELD took place on Wednesday 16th February 2022 at Vision West Notts College where the Atrium provided a superb space for over 100 delegates to gather, network and listen to the speakers.

Senior leaders from both district councils, Mariam Amos and Theresa Hodgkinson, delivered their inspirational strategic ambitions for the future of both districts and encouraged businesses to look to the wider talent pool by adopting more inclusive approaches to recruitment. Both district councils have been keen to give young people inclusive employment opportunities through initiatives and training programmes such as Kickstart and apprenticeships. Fiona Baker from D2N2 LEP outlined the current and future economic landscape and emphasised the benefits of inclusive recruitment for our businesses. Unfortunately college Principal Andrew Cropley couldn’t be in attendance in person but did make a huge effort to address the audience via a pre-recorded audio presentation (see below for a copy of all the presentations).

Following the panel discussion delegates attended their chosen workshop, either ‘Employing People with Long-term Health Conditions’ or ‘Digital Inclusion for your Workforce’ led by Jane Fishwick, Assistant Principal at the college. Attendees were given an insight into the future world of education, training and work for children growing up now in a world where digital technology is ever present and with that will come jobs of the future that don’t yet exist.

Over lunch everyone was invited into the marketplace to meet the organisations that can support employers in multiple ways to recruit people from more diverse backgrounds in order to reduce the number of vacancies unfilled, help retain local talent, improve productivity and invest in workforce skills development.

Continued focus on the inclusive recruitment agenda is welcomed through future events and activity.
