Second Recruiting Talent event takes place in Newark

Posted 05.02.2020

Businesses from Newark and Sherwood district headed to the Castle House civic offices for the second of the Recruiting Talent in Nottinghamshire series.

The event was opened by John Robinson (pictured), Chief Executive of Newark & Sherwood District Council, who spoke about the council’s role as an employer – to be a mindful employer, disability confident, supporting age positive job applications, achieving the silver award for the Employer Recognition Scheme from the Ministry of Defence and supporting Nottinghamshire’s Local Offer for Care Leavers.

There were also speakers from the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership and the D2N2 Growth Hub.  Rachel Quinn from the D2N2 LEP spoke about the static labour market in the D2N2 area and the challenges businesses will face with future recruitment.  Lucie Andrews talked about the role of the Growth Hub in supporting businesses to grow and prosper.

Delegates attended workshops and met local organisations in the marketplace, which could help support them in the recruitment and retention of staff.  The workshops focused on support available to employers looking to work with young people, people with disabilities, tapping in to the apprenticeship levy, people who have a health or learning condition and people leaving the armed forces or prison.
