Stop Loan Sharks Week 16-22 December 2019

Posted 13.12.2019

Stakeholder Managers work throughout the year to raise awareness of the damaging effect of high cost credit.  Christmas is a busy time for illegal Loan Shark activity.

Stop Loan Sharks Week is an annual opportunity for organisations locally and nationally to work together and deliver a cohesive public awareness campaign. People are warned not turn to loan sharks to cover the cost of Christmas as a small loan can quickly escalate into something much more serious and victims are often subjected to threats, intimidation and violence.

Loan sharks could be having a detrimental impact financially, physically and emotionally on your clients and service users.

Using the hashtag #StopLoanSharksXMAS this year’s online campaign is providing the public with useful information and advice to ensure they stay safe and don’t fall victim to unscrupulous lenders.

The campaign will run from Monday 16th December to Sunday 22nd December. The toolkit below provides guidance and tips for your social media campaign throughout Stop Loan Sharks Week 2019, to support you in raising awareness of the dangers of illegal money lending.
