Time Out Professional Drug & Alcohol support

Posted 09.12.2022

For many, gambling is entertainment; a social or leisure activity.  However, it can be become a slippery slope into problematic gambling and spiralling debt for individuals and families.

Stakeholder Managers raise awareness of problem gambling and available support across D2N2.

Double Impact (BBO partner) is a registered charity working with people in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire who are recovering from substance misuse, supporting them to establish new lives free from dependence on drugs or alcohol.

Double Impact was commissioned by Nottingham City Council in conjunction with Public Health England, as part of a wider Mental Health strategy, to look into the prevalence and effects of gambling problems in Nottingham – the Time Out project.

Since the commencement of the project, Time Out has created an extensive database of useful resources such as a screening and referral pathway, the Problem Gambling Severity Index Screening Tool, gambling support services available both locally and nationally, helpful tools and apps to assist with recovery and a dedicated section for financial/debt help.

All of this has been designed specifically for, and can be accessed by, professionals and referrers, as well as for anyone who has been affected by a gambling addiction; whether it is the individual themselves, as an affected other (family, friends, colleagues) or as a community. The resources can be viewed online, downloaded, printed or shared and can be found on the Time Out section of the Double Impact website.

As the end of the first year of Double Impact’s Time Out project is near, an external evaluation has been commissioned and will be carried out by Lincoln University, led by Dr Lauren Hall.  The purpose of this study is to better understand and raise the profile of gambling-related issues, with a view to tackling the financial exclusion experienced by the individuals, families and communities affected by these issues and identify support options.

National Charity Gam Care hold a wide range of information and support which organisations and individuals can access across the D2N2 footprint.

BBO is having a significant impact on individual lives, supporting people to increase their confidence, independence and achieve their employment aspirations.
